Palm Sunday
Our latest cross-Brislington combined service is this weekend with all churches processing with their Palms to St Cuthbert’s where the service will be held. So the plan is to meet at St Christophers at 930am and we will set out to walk together St Cuthbert’s at 945am. If you are late the route will be simple – down to the park and then up Sandy Park Road.
This year the service is special in including not just the 4 Anglican Churches but our brothers and sisters from the URC, Woodland and Methodist Churches – a powerful statement of Christian Unity!
The service will be a shortish all age service focussing on the Palm Sunday Liturgy of the Palms – the usual lengthy passion liturgy we had as our Passion Play last week..
Wednesday
Wednesday morning at 10am it is our usual mid week communion service held this week at St Annes.
Maundy Thursday
For those interested in the morning is the annual Chrism Eucharist affirmation of ministry service at the Cathedral (at 1030am) where all Ministers reaffirm their calling to Ministry and we have all the oils used in our special services blessed by the Bishop.
In the evening at 730pm is our annual Maundy Thursday Service of Communion and Footwashing this year held at St Luke’s. The foot washing is a part of the service but is optional. As the service ends you are welcome to go or to stay for our ‘Watch Hour’ (9-10pm) when we watch and wait, accompanying Jesus in his prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Good Friday
Good Friday morning we have a special all age service for Brislington that we are hosting here at St Christopher’s. It will be starting at the slightly earlier than usual time of 10am and will lead naturally into a special Hot Cross Bun Workshop that we are putting on for the community straight after the service. If you are coming to the service there is no need to book a slot, but if you are just coming to the workshop we have limited bookable spaces (see the post on this elsewhere in the timeline)
Good Friday afternoon from 2-3pm Church will open for quiet prayer, meditation and reflection, concluding at 240-3pm with a short Act of worship.
Easter Saturday
Easter Saturday is traditionally the time of the Easter Vigil when we begin preparing for Easter Sunday. We mark this as a church with a special service of light. This is a short and simple service with lots of light and darkness as we hear again God’s story from Creation. The service is at St Cuthbert’s at 8pm.
Easter Sunday
We begin Easter Sunday by welcoming the dawn in our Sunrise Service at 6am – This begins at the top of Arnos Park. Following the service we enjoy a large Full English breakfast in the Church Hall – getting up early has its benefits! Just a reminder do please sign up on the sheet on the display at church and let me know nanny dietary requirements.
Then at 1030am here at St Christopher’s we have our main service Celebrating Easter. This will be a joyful service with a couple of surprises so be great to see you there.
